  • Thanks you

Thanks you for teaching me some cooking skill and learning budget (and) everything and healthy eating habits (with) food.

I would like to see you August and (be a) helping hand for you and Meg. Sometime I can be cheeky but I tried not to

  • My teenage son (17yrs) completed the In the Kitchen workshop this week.

He really enjoyed the program. He said: the educators, Desley & Rhys, were really nice and the food was great.

He mentioned that the meals prepared were healthy/tasty meals & yummy desserts that he would cook again (bonus!), there was plenty of food to eat (there & to take home) and, he also liked how he was shown how he could cook a dish by using different appliances, e.g., when cooking their homemade chicken nuggets - they could use an air fryer or a deep fryer.

Hubby and I got to taste the leftovers and we are also looking forward to him cooking. Especially the chocolate chip cookies! 😋

He is hoping that he can do another 'In the Kitchen' workshop to learn to cook other meals and snacks!

    Thanks Desley, Megan & Rhys

  • During October 2022, I had the privilege to attend the “In the Kitchen” program with one of my clients in my role as a Support Worker.

The workshops were conducted with the uttermost professionalism, ensuring that all group members remained engaged and understood what was going on. The small classes, and 1 to 4 ratio enabled most participants to attend independently of their support workers.

Megan and Desley supported all of the participants to facilitate conversations between themselves. The 4-hour program enables the group members to take their time in learning new skills, and really unpack what was entailed in cooking a healthy, balanced three-course meal, afternoon tea or lunch.

This program not only teaches individuals about purchasing groceries, kitchen safety, using a recipe, preparation of food, and how to implement “healthy eating”. The program also entails practice of important skills like setting the table, using condiments, presentation of food and how to have a social meal together.

Lightbulb skills provide a safe learning space where mistakes are allowed, and the facilitators support everyone to practice all skills, whether that be grating, chopping, mixing, washing vegetables, compiling, using an electric frypan, microwave or air fryer.

It’s so much more than a cooking program.

  • My son recently attended the In the Kitchen course.

He advised me he was 10/10 negative and reluctant about going and afterwards he said he was a 7/10 about how it actually went. Firstly, believe it or not this is high praise indeed coming from Him. Secondly, I have a sneaking suspicion it may have scored even better but he didn’t want to admit it.

I wish there were more courses like this offering these sort of life skills that our kids need. I have told a few places about it and they were very interested even for kids not on NDIS.

Anyway my son will be (reluctantly) cooking fajitas tonight and I’m planning for it to be the first of many. 😀

Thanks again for this workshop and providing something like this where there is a real lack of these sorts of things in the market.

  • Thanks Megan and Desley

This has been a life changing series of workshops for Abi, and others I am sure. Keep up the great work you awesome ladies.
