  • In The Kitchen is a workshop designed to improve participants’ confidence in making nutritional choices and in the preparation of food.

    Each workshop involves:

    • Interactive cooking demonstrations, coupled with explicit instructions on how to “do” each individual step of a recipe.

    • The “why” we do things to aid participants’ understanding and improve retention of the importance of each step, particularly healthy eating portions and safety in the kitchen.

    • Many opportunities to utilise the skills that the participants learn, which are reinforced each session through the preparation of raw ingredients and cooking of food.

    • Social interaction and dining etiquette - the efforts of the day are enjoyed together .

    • The workshop is led by an educator, participants are supported in a 1:4 ratio.

    • The workshop has learning intentions around the five key areas of focus: nutritional information, menu planning, kitchen safety and knife skills, food hygiene and raw food handling, and dining etiquette.

    • At the end of the workshop students are evaluated against each learning intention as either “working toward” or “achieved”. They each receive an individualised “I Can” assessment.

    Workshops are scheduled for North and South Perth metro regions at the moment. Country workshops have also been held so please contact us if you’d like to arrange something closer to home.

  • Let’s get social is a workshop designed to build confidence and independence in getting “out and about”.

    Each workshop involves:

    • Instruction in the essential steps required to coordinate a social outing with others. This covers Planning, Inviting, Booking, Confirming, Travelling, Meeting, Participating, and Getting home safely.

    • Opportunities are provided for rehearsal of each of these steps as learning is reinforced each week and confidence increases.

    • Each session will culminate in sharing a different activity together that participants have arranged themselves.

    • Each workshop is led by an educator, and participants are supported in a 1:4 ratio.

    • The workshop has learning intentions identified at the beginning of the course, and participants nominate the activities that they would like to coordinate over the course duration.

    • At the end of each workshop, participants are evaluated against each learning intention as either “working toward” or “achieved”. They each receive an individualised “I Can” statement of attainment.

    • Participants will arrive at a designated location for the beginning of the workshop. After the structured learning of the evening, participants will travel either in an Uber, a vehicle with a support worker, or on the LightBulb bus to the agreed dinner destination, and then on to the chosen activity of the evening. Usually the group will return to the original location for pick up at the end of the evening. If choosing to practise ride share, the cost of Uber rides will be shared equally amongst the participants developing this skill.

    • To practise money handling skills, and taking responsibility for own food choices, each participant will pay for their own meal.

    • Participants will need to be collected from a predetermined location at an agreed time or from the original location at 9.15pm each evening.

    • The cost of this workshop includes instruction, course materials, and the cost of the shared activity.

  • Around the House is a workshop designed to prepare participants to maintain a clean, hygienic and comfortable home space, whether living alone, or sharing with others.

    Each workshop will cover:

    • The Do’s and Dont’s of being a good “flatmate”, setting boundaries and managing expectations.

    • Understanding the importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for both your health, safety and comfort.

    • Opportunities are created for participants to learn to identify what things need to be done in what order, how frequently, and in what circumstances. Basic household budgeting is also considered.

      Questions like “How often do I change my sheets? “ are explored and basic cleaning techniques covered from room to room within the home.

    • The. workshop is led by an educator, participants are supported in a 1:4 ratio.

    • The workshop has learning intentions stated at the beginning of the course, and participants are evaluated against each of these as either “working toward” or “achieved”.

      Each participant receives an individualised “I Can” statement of attainment at the end of the course.

    • Building skills for safety on the road as a pedestrian, a driver and a passenger in a FUN, practical and socially engaging workshop setting.

    • This interactive workshop allows you to continue to learn road rules, trip planning; all while developing further confidence on the roads.

    • For those that choose, you may also sit the Keys For Life test.

  • Expanding upon the successful Let's Get Social workshop, this workshop is for over 30's ladies.

    By continuing to build Social Skills, and making friendships through common interest and shared experiences, the specific needs and interests of this group are addressed. It's FUN, SOCIALLY MOTIVATING, and SKILL BUILDING all in one workshop as we engage around issues specific to this stage of life

    • Coordinating a series of self-chosen social outings with others.

    • The workshops cover skills such as Planning, Inviting, Booking, Confirming, Travelling, Meeting, Engaging socially, and Getting home safely.

    • Each workshop has learning intentions identified at the beginning of the course, and participants nominate the activities that they would like to coordinate over the course duration.

    If you own, or are looking to explore the benefits of cooking with a Thermomix, then this workshop course offers you the opportunity to increase your independence in the kitchen while you create some delicious dishes. You will learn the benefits of the in built safety features, how to access guided recipes, develop your meal and menu planning, and benefit from automatically generated shopping lists and click and collect/ delivery services.

    As always, participants enjoy a meal together at the end of the workshop, where reflective learning, and social conversation is enjoyed together.

    TM6 machines are used in the workshop, and instruction is provided for users of previous models.

  • Let’s Get Away is a weekend workshop designed for participants of previous workshops to further develop and showcase their emerging skills. Using a small group environment, the weekend provides opportunities for self-catering (In the Kitchen skills), shared living (Around The House skills); and fun activities (Let’s Get Social skills).

The costs for all Lightbulb Skills’ workshops are fully inclusive. That is, the stipulated fee for the workshop includes all supplies, equipment and activities and are within the NDIS guidelines.

Upon the completion of a Lightbulb Skills workshop, participants will receive a personalised Statement of Attainment; this will reflect their achieved outcomes.
